Curbside trash pickup begins at 6:00 am on Fridays.
Large Trash Pickup: annually in May

Brush Pickup – Weekly on Mondays
Leaf Pickup – Typically starting October lasting through the end of November

Wakarusa Recycling Information

Curbside pick up is available biweekly on Mondays.

Contact Borden Waste-Away Service, Inc. at 574-293-5001 to establish service.

Option for all other materials:

Household Hazardous Waste Collections Schedule for Elkhart County Residents: will be held on the first Saturdays of every month at the Elkhart County Correctional Facility near the intersection of County Road 7 and County Road 26. Enter off of County Road 7. Hours are 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Items not accepted at the monthly household hazardous waste drop off:

Tires:
Tires and car batteries can be recycled at stores that sell them. Car batteries may also be taken to an area scrap metal dealer.

E- Waste:
Goodwill stores will accept non-working TVs

Latex Paint:
Absorb paint with shredded newspaper, kitty litter, sand, sawdust, or other absorbent, and dispose in your trash. Aerosol cans can be emptied of their contents and disposed in the trash.We will take oil basedpaint.

Akaline Batteries*:
Dispose in trash.
We will accept recyclable lithium batteries.

Medications:
Medications may be dropped off at the Wakarusa Police Department at 102 S. Spring St. We accept medications and sharps, but please put sharps in a puncture proof container. You may also add water to pills, seal the lid tightly, and seal whole container in a reseal able plastic bag. You may soak up liquid meds with sand or kitty liter, secure the lid tightly, and seal the whole container in a resealable plastic bag. Both may be disposed in landfill in that condition.
